LADY TROJAN BASKETBALL EXPECTATIONS Our philosophy is designed to help you become the best basketball player you can possibly be. We will have 100% team effort at all times. This contains everything except the burning desire to excel, which will come from within you. Whether you are a starter or not, you will be as important to our total effort as anyone in our program. Be proud to be a part of our team, because we will all be winners!
PHILOSOPHY OF BASKETBALL
A. We will play an aggressive style of basketball. B. We will always out hustle our opponents. C. We will always play hard, but clean. D. After the game, you should have no regrets, leave nothing to be spared. E. Strict discipline will always be enforced. F. A good positive attitude on the part of everyone is the most important part of becoming a winner. G. We will take pride in that we will be: 1. in better condition 2. better prepared than our opponents. H. Foul language will not be tolerated. I. Strive for improvement every day. J. You must be prepared to sacrifice. There is nothing easy about basketball. You can always do more than you think you can. We do not know how much we can do, but you must want to do everything necessary to win. Winning is an attitude. Do you have what it takes?
EXPECTATIONS OF BASKETBALL
A. Every team member must develop a burning desire for our team to win each and every game. B. If we are going to be a good team, everyone must work together. We must pay the price, and the price is sweat. C. Strive for perfection at all times. Do things right. D. Every coach and player gets just what they put into it. E. Your physical condition is very important. 1. fuel your body with nutritious food and drink 2. get plenty of sleep-quality sleep. During the season, you must have priorities and basketball must be one of them. Going out the night before a game, staying up late and not being 100% ready is letting your team down. Don’t do it! 3. NO DRINKING OF ALCOHOLIC beverages. NO taking of unprescribed DRUGS and NO SMOKING of any kind will be tolerated! Any violation of this will result in consequences according to CFBISD Three Strike Policy. F. Be on time for practice. Dress as fast as you can. Do not be late anywhere! G. Don’t miss practice. Family emergencies and sickness cannot be helped. As soon as you realize you are going to miss practice, please call 972-968-5306. H. Don’t miss games, and do not miss school. Family emergencies and other school conflicts will be the exception. If you miss a game, you will sit out the next game. I. Wear the correct work out clothes each day. Do not wear your athletic clothes outside of the gymnasium, except from school to home after practice. You may not wear school issued uniforms, sweats, work-out wear anywhere except to practice or games. We will not wear our work out clothes in the study hall. This is a UIL violation. 1. Lost workout wear will be paid for prior to receiving new clothes. 2. You will be issued two sets of work-out wear to wear every other day. 3. Launder your workout clothes daily. 4. T-Shirts will be tucked in our shorts. 5. No jewelry will be worn at anytime during practice. 6. No doo-rags or bandanas will be worn during class, practice or to and from games. 7. No extreme hair-cuts or hair do’s. 8. No extreme dress. WE ARE A TEAM AND WE WILL LOOK LIKE ONE TEAM—NOT A BUNCH OF INDIVIDUALS WHO WANT TO DRAW ATTENTION TO OURSELVES. J. Treat everyone with respect—parents, teachers, coaches, teammates, trainers, Managers and officials. 1. If you receive a technical during a game, there will be a running consequence, and playing time will be up to the discretion of the coaches. 2. We will hand the ball to officials, we will not talk back to the officials or make a scene. K. Keep your dressing rooms neat and clean! L. Do not use profanity, trash talk, illegal tactics or horseplay in the gym or in the games. M. When talking to your coach or coaches, or when a coach is talking to you, look them in the eye and respond by saying, “yes. ma’am” or yes. N. We will always encourage our teammates during practice and games.
EXPECTATIONS FOR GRADES
A. No Pass No Play—It’s simple! If you fail, you cannot participate in any games. You cannot ride the bus or be on the bench. This lasts for three weeks, then at that time you are passing, then you will be reinstated to play. You can practice during this time. You will have study hall every day, you must bring something to study with you each or something to read. Manage your time wisely. If you repeatedly fail, we have the option to remove you from the athletic class. B. Push yourself in the classroom. Don’t settle for a C, when you can make an A or B. Your class work is the most important. I cannot help you if you do not take care of your grades and behavior in class.
IV. BUS TRIPS.
A. Varsity athletes are required to ride the bus to and from all contests. 1. An emergency situation is the only exception. Then the athlete must ride only with their parent or guardian and must sign out on our release form. 2. Other exceptions may be holiday games or tournaments, up to discretion of head coach. 3. Sub-varsity players must ride bus to and from all contests. We understand that many of these athletes do not drive. If there is homework or a test of high priority, we will allow them to ride home with their parents and must notify the coach prior to going to the contest. 4. Jr. Varsity teams will be required to attend/stay for Varsity Games whether they are home or away. The Varsity players will be required to attend at least half of sub-varsity games. |
